Member Benefits
The greatest benefit of serving in the Atlanta Health Corps is the personal and professional growth and sense of accomplishment that results from helping others in very important ways. Members also receive valuable experience in the field of healthcare and get an opportunity to develop personal and professional networks that can last a lifetime.
AHC members are required to perform 1700 hours of service over the course of 46 weeks to successfully complete their term of service and to be eligible for an education award. In return for serving, members receive:
- $11,800 living allowance (2010-2011 members) or $12,100 living allowance (2011-2012 members). This is the annual gross amount distributed bi-weekly over the 46 week term of service.
- Extensive training and support
- Basic health coverage
- Child care allowance, if eligible
- Local travel reimbursement for outreach
- 15 days of combined personal, sick and vacation time
- Networking opportunities and future job leads
- $5,350 education award upon successful completion of program (which can be accessed for up to 7 years to pay back qualified student loans or for future education expenses)
- Real world experience
- Loan forbearance on qualified student loans while enrolled in the program (not all private loans are eligible for forbearance)
- Chance to make positive, life-changing differences in people’s lives
The AHC does not provide housing for members although staff will assist with housing resources and referrals.
